I visited this store Friday night 6pm with my 5 month old baby to pick up one item. As I walked in through the automated doors into the aisle of value I slipped on the wet floor,. As I fell I tried to hang onto my baby to break her fall. I landed on my front and my baby landed on her head/back on the concrete floor in front of me. As you can imagine I was really distraught as well as hurt and my baby was screaming. There was one staff member right there packing shelves as well as general members of the public. I am sad to tell that not one person came up and helped me including the member of staff. They all looked at my situation turned their backs and carried on. I was in tears not knowing if my baby was ok or possibly concused or worse. What is this world coming to when no one will help someone who has fallen over let alone dropped a baby! Has anyy one had similar experiences there? Why are the staff not trained to help? Why do members of public turn theri backs? Any advice?
Respond Share This Posted 2 Aug 2008 (4363 Views)I cannot understand how nobody came to help you and your little one..
Are you and bub O.K?
I know for a fact that if I was there I would have certainly helped you and made sure you and baby were fine.
For some people its just an instinct to help others, while other people just don't know what do do and assume somebody else will help.
I am sorry for what you experienced and we can only hope that the people who were there feel embarrassed that they didn't do anything to help you.
Hope you and your little one are o.k.

Thank you sooo much for your concern. I have seen a docter regarding my sore knee and have had the bubs checked. You have restored my faith that some one actually cares. I was so devastated that my baby had been hurt I totally overlooked my own pain as you do. I have since been into Pak and Save and although the Duty manager has apologised the Mangers were not available to talk to. I have asked why the staff are not trained to deal with such and he replied that "they employ alot of high school students". I find this a terrible excuse as it does not matter who you employ they are to be trained in proceedures regardless of age surely. Once again thank you, I will fill the public in as to what happens when Managment finally appear.

Have faith, if I was there i would of helped you and bubs as well, high school students is no excuse for such terrible treatment. Glad to hear you are on the mend. Alot of people freak I reckon in a situation like that and dont think they can be any help so carry on their way but there is people out there that would help you. Would love to hear more after you hear from the managers.. Good Luck!
P.S Was there a wet floor sign?

The problem is that the majority of people dont know how to respond to such situations...The society we now live in is becoming more and more self focused and selfish. I hope that you both bounce back and have the type of experience that restores your faith in humanity/society.

I am horrified that no one helped you!! Like the others on here, I too would most definitely have rushed to help you, especially as your baby fell like that. I just cant understand the people who did nothing, what IS the world coming to? I hope you are both feeling better.

As a father and husband it irks me to hear no one came to your rescue. To be honest I hate shopping at "Push and Shove" for this reason. I find the public especially pushy, boisterous and irritating. Any way that's not what I'm here for, you should be contacting the management and discussing some kind of compensation for your troubles. Was there any sort of display indicating a wet area/floor? Who knows what may have happened. Send them the doctors bills.
Glad to hear you and your wee one are OK.

Was the floor wet from people walking over it or had someone washed it? In any case, was there a wet floor sign out? I would make a complaint to Pak and Save and a health and safety place.

I am disgusted to read what has happened to you and your wee baby, so much so that I feel physically sick. I truly hope you are both ok and I would certainly have helped had I seen this happen - i don't know how anyone could just ignore something like this. I have slipped in Pak n Save before as well and while I didn't get hurt I was worried that it may happen to an elderly person or someone more frail than myself. My concern was basically ignored by the staff, there was also no wet floor sign. If I were you I would take this up with OSH, it would have been recorded by the store cameras as well and could have had a very serious or tragic outcome.
Good luck and best wishes to you both.

I am 30 and remember being taught basic first aid in high school, do they not do that now? Even if they dont have training, surely human compassion would see them helping you. I was nearly in tears reading this as I can imagine how distraught you must have been.

Thank goodness you are both ok how scarey. I dont know how i would of reacted if it had been me and my wee man.
Since Pak n Save have shined their floors up again they have been very slippery. Ive almost gone over myself so i cant imagine how bad it was when wet.
There was a thing on FAIR GO a month ago about a disabled lady who had shocking service as she couldnt reach the shelves to get what she wanted and the answer they gave her was that they are a WHOLESALE store not retail so go to new world they can help.
Quite seriously what would they have done if it was a terrible outcome (thank god its not)
PAK N SAVE get your S*%#T together before something tragic happens.
