DCC Moray Place Car Park

I have a problem with the Moray Place carpark and the new self pay system. We have used this carpark many a time, and thought it was great that it was changing to self pay untill recently.

We have been quite good a remembering to pay before we get to the car, but because we mainly use this park when seeing a movie, there is generally a few people come back to their cars at the same time as us. Every time now, that we get down to the exit, there is always someone that has forgotten to pay and have parked their car blocking the exit.
A great example of this was in the weekend, two drivers had blocked the exit and were at the pay machine, waiting for others to pay who had obviously not yet got to their own cars. We were waiting in the que, with many other frustrated drivers, with horns tooting and abuse throwing.
What scares me is the not knowing how much time we have to get out once we have paid out ticket.

I can understand this kind of thing happening once the change to self pay had just happened, but months after?? I also realise that no one is perfect and that these things will always happen.

Am I right in thinking there are parks before the exit were these forgetful payers can park out of the way? If so there needs to be a big sign on the level above the exit asking if you have paid, and if not to use these parks in consideration of others. Or maybe some one else has a better suggestion!

I know this is something that i could also take to the DCC, but maybe someone there will read this and hopefully enough people will comment for something to happen...

funny you bring this up...

I was actually thinking about that last night, or even if they had a 'forgetful person' parking bay so that they can hop out and pay. However would this just be used 24/7 by lazy people? I think it so something the DCC should do though

Thats what i thought

I agree, they could get the meter man to monitor it, it is a DCC carpark after all!

Parking Bay

They have these in Auckland at virtually every carpark for those who have forgotten to pay before they leave.

It's a great idea and certainly could and should be added to Dunedin carparks as my husband was one of the people who was stuck in the weekend in a big queue as the man in front had forgotten to pay and held up the traffic for quite a substantial length of time.

If a parking bay was available, this situation would easily have been averted.

Maybe this is something as ratepayers we should be taking up with the Council?

its gonna happen

as someone who helps maintain these carparks, i can tell you that we are planning on doing exactly what you guys are talking about.

also moving the exit ticket machine so that its easier for people to put their tickets in as they leave.

Hopefully this will all help in making it easier to pay and leave the building :)

Awesome!

Im glad I added my two cents here! Im happy to hear that soon we will be able to go catch a movie and not worry about getting stuck in a que in the carpark sometime soon :)

its done...

Noodle, you prob won't have been back to the moray place carpark since we've changed it, but if you did, you'd now see that there are signs up to inform people that the parking at the exit level is temp parking for payment only...

of course, some people will always park there as they will not change... but we have tried to make things better...

next will be moving the exit ticket reader so that its not in such a hard place to reach.

Awesome!

Yeah, we braved it in the weekend :)

I did see 'temp parking' scrawled above those bottom parks so i thought something must be getting done. That is awesome, just hope people use those parks for their intended use :)
